Hattiesburg police have seized 50 pounds of cocaine after a traffic stop on Interstate 59.

Police Chief Frazier Bolton said Officer Chris Fagan on Sunday stopped a tow truck with Texas plates because the driver did not have on his emergency lights. The tow truck was pulling a second vehicle.

Riding in the tow truck were three men, a woman and four minors.

Police said a man and woman told Fagan that their truck’s water pump had broken while they were visiting family in Beaumont, Texas, and they were having it towed to their home in Atlanta.

Fagan said a drug dog found a secret compartment beneath the floor of the truck from which a single bag of cocaine was visible. The dog later found the rest of the cocaine.

The four adults were arrested but two men were later released. Police did not say what happened to the minors.

The identities of the two still in custody have not been released.
