Sheriff Melvin Brisolara is asking the Harrison County Board of Supervisors to fill 22 vacancies at the county jail at a cost of nearly $2 million.

Brisolara told supervisors on Monday that he needs the added personnel to increase security at the troubled adult detention center.

His request raised concerns about how many positions were created by the previous sheriff, but never approved by supervisors.

Supervisor Marlin Ladner said he didn’t remember the board ever approving positions without the appropriate budget amendments to cover the costs.

Brisolara was told to get with the county administrator to work out specific costs and make certain the hiring and budget figures are accurate.
