An 89 year-old woman died in a vehicular accident Thursday, March 12, when she apparently pulled out in front of another vehicle.

At about 6:14 Irese McKellip, 89, of Dubbison Rd., in Carriere was driving her 2003 Buick Sentry when she approached the intersection of Caesar Road and West Union Road.

A witness behind McKellip told Pearl River County Sheriff’s Deputies that McKellip appeared to have looked both ways before pulling out on to West Union Road in front of a 2006 Ford F-350 driven by 18 year-old Leigh Holland of Carriere, said Chief Investigator Shane Tucker.

McKellip died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the accident, Tucker said.

Alcohol was not suspected to be involved in the accident and no charges have been pressed.

While officers do take note of evidence collected at accident scenes, the county does not have a certified person to reconstruct accidents. Currently the department relies mostly on witness statements to reconstruct accidents, but Tucker said a deputy is undergoing a six-week, three-level course.

“By the end of the year we will have a certified accident reconstructionist,” Tucker said.
