On Tuesday, a number of law enforcement agencies chased a suspect driving a stolen vehicle believed to be used for drug trafficking.

Picayune Police Investigators received a tip from a confidential source that a vehicle was stolen and was being used to traffic illegal substances to the area, said Public Information Officer Capt. Theresa Milar.

The informant told officers where the vehicle was supposed to be parked, but when officers arrived the vehicle was not there. Officers later found the vehicle on the move in the city and attempted to pull it over, at which time the suspect attempted to flee the city, Milar said. The vehicle, described as a 2003 Silver Hummer over the police scanner, was reported to have traveled through town, down Jackson Landing Road and onto Interstate 59 heading south bound. Milar confirmed the vehicle was a silver Hummer.

While attempting to flee to Louisiana, the vehicle ran out of gas at the 8-mile marker in St. Tammany Parish, La., Milar said. The vehicle was found to have been stolen from Jefferson Parish, La., Milar said.

The suspect was identified as Richard “Ricky” Carver, 39, of 2501 Laura Dr., Picayune. Carver is in the custody of St. Tammany Parish law enforcement awaiting extradition to Picayune.

No drugs or weapons were found in the vehicle, Milar said.
