Sheriff’s Department makes arrests

The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department has made several arrests this month, according to a press release from the department.

On Feb. 1, the Sheriff’s Department, working with the Poplarville Police Department, investigated a complaint of Child Exploitation, according to the release. Zachary Head, 18 of Picayune, and Kortney Wheat, 18 of Picayune, were arrested and charged with Child Exploitation. Wheat was also charged with two counts of Sexual Battery, according to the release.

Major Shane Tucker of the sheriff’s department said the arrests resulted from a complaint that Head made a video tape of Wheat participating in sexually explicit conduct with a 14 year old female. According to the release, the incident occurred on Jan. 25, at the couple’s residence on McCormick Lane in Picayune.

Tucker said bond had been set at $40,000 cash for Head and $50,000 cash for Wheat, and the two are now awaiting trial at the Pearl River County Jail.

On Feb. 2, deputies responded to a robbery in the 900 block of Anchor Lake Road, according to the release from the department.

Upon arriving at the scene, the victim told officers he had been attacked by two white males after coming to the residence to meet with a female. During the attack, the victim was beaten with PVC pipe and choked, and one of the attackers took the victim’s wallet, according to the release.

Tucker said the victim had received a text message asking him to come to the residence. Tucker said the victim refused medical treatment at the scene, but later had a family member take him to the hospital.

According to the release, Timothy Edward Davis, 21 of Anchor Lake Road of Carriere, Desiree Kennedy, 18 of Davis Dausey Road of Picayune, John Cornwell, 21 of Luther Davis Road of Picayune, and Angel Nicole Blazio, 17 of Oak Drive in Picayune, were arrested and charged with Simple Robbery in connection with the attack.

On Feb. 4, the department, in conjunction with the Picayune Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, worked in an undercover operation to arrest 17 year old Lloyd Hall and 22 year old Edward Fells, both of North Beech Street, Picayune, according to the release.

Tucker said the two were arrested in the parking lot of a business on U.S. 11 and Mississippi 43 in Picayune, and $400 worth of cocaine was taken into possession by the department.

According to the release, Hall was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Fells was charged with Conspiracy to Sell Controlled Substance.
