Carriere man charged with sexual battery

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Carriere man early Wednesday for the alleged sexual battery of an unidentified child.

According to a press release from the department, Robert Joseph Lewis, 34, of 463 White Chapel Rd., Carriere, was arrested on Feb. 6, for two felony counts of sexual battery.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the department after they received complaints from the Department of Human Services. The release states DHS reported that the three year-old male child disclosed Lewis had sexually assaulted him sometime during 2007. Capt. Ron Pullen said the child disclosed information about the sexual battery after he was placed in foster care.

Upon those findings, a warrant was issued for Lewis’ arrest. Lewis was apprehended with assistance from the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force, according to the release.

After Lewis was arrested, he was brought before Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain. Fountain set bond at $400,000. According to an article in the Sun Herald, Lewis posted the required 10 percent, $40,000 bond, the day after his arrest.
