A local man was allegedly assaulted by three other men Sunday evening in front of and inside the TJ’s quick stop.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Shane Tucker said the call came in at 7:12 p.m. reporting that three men assaulted another man in front of the store on Wheat’s Curve.

One man apparently used a tire tool while a second used a crescent wrench, Tucker said. Which suspect used which tool is unclear, Tucker said. The three men believed to be involved in the assault are identified as William Collins, 33, of 146 Dumas Wise Rd., Wesley Barnes, 33, of 11 Hayes Lane and Donald Barnes, 36, also of 11 Hayes Lane. Tucker said witness reports and other evidence links those three suspects to the scene. The three men apparently beat the victim, Stephen Flemming, 35, of Picayune, until he bled and ran into the store.

“He was bleeding to the point that he was bleeding on the floor,” Tucker said.

Flemming ran to the back of the store, where the suspects followed without their weapons. The suspects continued to beat Flemming in the back of store for a time before leaving.

So far Donald Barnes and Collins have been charged with aggravated assault. The same charge is pending on Wesley Barnes, Tucker said. The department is waiting on Wesley Barnes to receive medical treatment for wounds he received during the assault before charging him.

Nothing was taken from the victim in the assault, Tucker said.

Officers on scene report Flemming’s wounds appeared to be non-life threatening, Tucker said.
