Suspects in the what is believed to be the murder of a 16 month-old child are being held without bond.

Judge Rachelle Lumpkin held a hearing Tuesday afternoon at the Picayune Criminal Justice center to determine if the suspects should be allowed to post bonds, and if so, in what amounts, and to set a date for the preliminary hearing of each of the suspects. Lumpkin said that because of the seriousness of the charge against them neither would be allowed to post bond.

The mother of the child, Allison Regina Holmes, 23, was charged with capital murder for the death of her child Brandon Paul Stacy, which could bring the death penalty if convicted, Lumpkin said. Holmes’ boyfriend, Kelly Lee Bonomo, 24, also was charged with capital murder of the child.

At about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Holmes called 911 reporting her child was not breathing, according to police officials. Emergency personnel responded and pronounced the child dead on scene. An autopsy performed on the child determined the cause of death to be closed head injury due to blunt force trauma. The autopsy report put the time of death at 1:30 a.m.

Lumpkin appointed K.C. Hightower and Jim Gray as Bonomo’s defense attorneys. John Howell and Tommy Schwartz were appointed to defend Holmes. Both suspects told the court they would not be able to afford to hire attorneys.

Preliminary hearings for both Holmes and Bonomo were set for Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. at the Criminal Justice Center courtroom.

As Bonomo was being escorted out of the courtroom, Holmes screamed, “Tell them the truth, Kelly, you b—–d.”

Connie Gay, grandmother of 16 month-old Stacy and mother of Holmes, who was in the court of the hearing, asked for prayers for her daughter and grandchild.
