Picayune’s popular Street Fair will kick off this weekend with plenty of vendors, activities, food and fun for the whole family.

Between 50,000 to 60,000 people are expected to attend the Street Fair, where favorites will return such as helicopter rides, train rides, the mechanical bull, the rock wall and pony rides, said Picayune Main Street Manager Reba Beebe.

This year’s fair will feature 250 vendors for patrons to peruse, about 40 of which are new.

“I don’t like to have a lot of similar merchants because they can’t make money,” Beebe said.

Vendors will be selling items such as homemade candles, iron works and more.

Picayune Main Street will have the new Anglican Christmas ornament for sale at their Street Fair booth, Beebe said. Information about the corporate squares and the engraved bricks for the new train depot will also be available at their booth.

Motor Sports Speedway will be at the fair giving away tobacco, with proper identification and completion of a survey.

Children can tell Santa Sam what they would like for Christmas and parents can get some Christmas shopping done as they shop at the Street Fair.

Tuesday’s election has prompted several candidates to set up booths at the fair to conduct some campaigning.

Entertainment varying from live music to dance shows will take place all day Saturday and from Noon till the evening on Sunday. The Waiting Room, who will play Saturday at 10 a.m., and Cornerstone, who will play Sunday at 3:30 p.m., are two new bands to the Street Fair. Pure Energy Productions will handle the sound and production for musical acts.

Returning are the Piney Woods Cloggers who will perform from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The Southern Vibe Cloggers will perform Saturday from 2 p.m. till 2:30 p.m.

The new benches purchased with money from a recent Turkey Shoot should be installed before the Street Fair along Main Street, East and West Canal and U.S. 11 in the main street area.

Next weekend the Blue Knights will conduct a bike ride to raise funds for Pearl River County foster children and Picayune will hold its annual Veteran’s Day Parade, which will feature classic and antique military vehicles.

Both events will take place on Nov. 10. Registration for the bike ride will begin at 8 a.m. at Jack Read Park.

The Veteran’s Day Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin on Goodyear Boulevard head to Main Street then turn onto West Canal before heading back to Goodyear Boulevard.
