An investigation is under way following the weekend discovery of skeletal remains in Harrison County.

Hunters found an abandoned pickup truck around noon Sunday just east of Mississippi 605 and reported it to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. The highway is the new stretch of state road that connects Cowan-Lorraine Road to Mississippi 67.

Deputy Gene Dedeaux responded and called for other authorities when he found the human remains nearby, said county Coroner Gary Hargrove.

Authorities plan to check dental and medical records to determine if the remains are that of Justin Lacey Tubbs, a 48-year-old Saucier man who has been missing since April.

Tubbs drove a 1992 Chevrolet pickup, which matched the description of the vehicle that was found near the remains.

“We’ve spoken with the family of Mr. Tubbs and will be going over dental records and medical records to determine if it is him,” Hargrove said.
