Now that the Pearl River County Circuit Clerk’s office has found a secure place to have an office in Picayune, residents in the south end of the county can tend to business with that office closer to home.

Circuit Clerk Vickie Harriel said a branch of her office opened recently at Picayune’s City Hall. Since Hurricane Katrina destroyed Chimney Square, residents in the south end of Pearl River County have had to travel to Poplarville to handle business with the Circuit Clerk’s office.

Residents in and near the city now have access to all the services the Circuit Clerk’s office offers such as marriage licenses, voter registration, absentee voting, passports and notary public. Operating hours for the office are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Voters will be able to conduct absentee voting for the upcoming general election scheduled for Nov. 6, at the new location until Nov. 3. On Nov. 3, voters who wish to cast their vote via absentee ballot can do so from 8 a.m. until noon at both the Poplarville courthouse and the new Picayune location, Harriel said.

“We appreciate the city offering that space until a new Chimney Square building has been constructed,” Harriel said.

The new temporary location of the Pearl River County Circuit Clerk’s office is at the south end of Picayune’s City Hall. Residents can gain access to the office by using the Public Works parking lot entrance. The Circuit Clerk’s office has a paper sign on the glass door.
