Althea Zuba Stone

Funeral Services were held Sunday, October 14, 2007 for Althea Zuba Stone, at the Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Purvis, Miss. Interment was as the Tyner Cemetery in Purvis.

Miss Stone was born on January 10, 1920 in New Orleans, La. She passed away on October 12, 2007 at the Bedford Care Center in Hattiesburg at the age of 87.

She was a native of New Orleans, and received her elementary education there. She graduated from Purvis High School, attended the University of Alabama, and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Althea was a member of First Baptist Church in Purvis, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, having taught 30 years in Lumberton, Picayune, and Purvis. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and the Daughters of the Confederacy.

Her mother, Donzia Tyner Stone, her father, Bertram McDuffy Stone, Sr., and her brother, Bertram McDuffy Stone, Jr. (B.M.), preceded her in death. Survivors include: her sister-in-law, Ruth Martin Stone of Picayune, two nephews, Bertram M. Stone, III of Baker, La., Taulbert Martin Stone of Slidell, La., and a niece Anna Ruth Stone Sellers of Picayune; seven grand nieces and nephews, and five great nieces and nephews.
