St. Stanislaus used a 25-point fourth quarter explosion to turn a hard fought game into a 44-19 victory against the Hancock Hawks Friday evening in Bay St. Louis.

The Hawks (0-3) matched the unbeaten Rockachaws for more than three quarters; however, SSC’s big play ability was too much for the Hawks to over come in the final period.

“I’m proud of our guys, but I’m disappointed for us all,” Hawks head coach Brian Barkley said. .”We did a lot of good things both offensively and on defense.”

The Rocks opened the scoring mid-way through the second quarter when Mason Brown broke free on a 37-yard scoring run.

Beau Shubert blocked the extra point, but SSC had a 6-0 lead with 5:33 to play in the half.

Hancock wasted little time answering the score as Jesse Vuong returned the kickoff 60 yards and a face mask penalty gave the Hawks the ball at the 25.

Dusting Johnson powered in a 15-yard touchdown run three plays later and Josh Barfield’s extra point gave the Hawks a 7-6 lead.

The Rocks would put together a nice 15-play drive just before the half to take a 12-7 lead.

Dylan Favre hit Evan Cranford on a six-yard screen pass for the score.

In the third quarter the Rocks put together a 13-play, 99-yard drive for their third score. Favre hit Chris Bermon for a 33-yard strike and the extra point gave SSC a 19-7 lead.

The Hawks would answer with a nice drive of their own to get back into the game. Keagon Gillihan hit Adrian Whavers on a 42-yard pass, and six plays later, Johnson rumbled in from one yard for his second score of the game.

The extra point failed, but with :40 seconds to play in the third the score was 19-13.

The Hawks defense got the ball right back, as they stuffed Favre on a fourth and one at the 41. With the momentum in their favor, the Hawks struck quickly.

Whavers took a pitch, made some nifty moves, and went all the way for a 41-yard touchdown to tie things at 19-19.

The good feelings for the Hawks was short lived; however, as Brandon Keel returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

After a Hawks punt, Brown erupted up the middle for a 65-yard touchdown run, and suddenly a tie game was 32-19.

SSC would tack on two more scores on Favre touchdown passes for the final score.

Whavers was the offensive leader for the Hawks running for 118 yards on 24 carries, and catching two passes for 48 yards.

The Hawks will have a bye week next week, and then host Ocean Springs.
