A shooting that took place near the Pearl River and Hancock County line is currently under investigation.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called about the incident at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, said department Chief Investigator Kenny Hurt. He said the victim told the department where the incident took place and a deputy went to check it out. At that point the deputy determined it took place in Pearl River County so the case was handed to that department, Hurt said.

Capt. Chris Lott with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said the call from Hancock County Sheriff’s Department came in at about 7:15 p.m. that same evening. Pearl River County investigators determined the victim was shot on F.Z. Goss Road, which is in Pearl River County. The victim, Tyler J. Foret, 20, of 23009 Bienville Rd., Picayune, was shot in the stomach just below the ribcage with a small caliber handgun, Lott said. Foret’s home address is in Hancock County.

When investigators with Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department attempted to contact the victim the first time he was in surgery, Lott said. The next day when investigators attempted to contact Foret he was sedated. To date Foret has been unable to provide any information that would lead to the development of a suspect, Lott said. Foret is still in Forrest General Hospital, where he was taken after the shooting, and listed in stable condition.

The initial report stated Foret was shot in a vehicle, but further investigation revealed he was shot was he was exiting a vehicle on F.Z. Goss Road at a residence, Lott said.

Currently no charges have been filed. If anyone has information on the incident they can contact the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department at 601-795-2241 and speak to Lott or Investigator Russell Miller.
