Guy Holston, an inspector with the Pearl River County Building Division, has obtained his second certification as an International Code Council Commercial Plumbing Inspector.

In an interview Thursday, Holston said he took the computer exam to receive the certification on July 31 of this year. His first certification is as a Residential Plumbing Inspector, which he obtained last year. He has been working for the county for a little over a year.

“I got my first certification right after I started, about a year ago,” Holston said.

Chief Building Inspector Kirk Pichon, who holds numerous certifications, said in a phone interview Wednesday that Holston is the first inspector in the county to receive a commercial certification. So far, there are only eight certified commercial plumbing inspectors in the state, Pichon said.

“There’s only about eight (inspectors) in the state who have this certification in the state,” Pichon said.

Holston is also the first inspector in the county to receive multiple certifications, although all inspectors will eventually obtain multiple certifications.

Pichon said four certifications are currently required for inspectors in the county, and all the inspectors are working toward obtaining those certifications. Those certifications are residential plumbing, residential electrical, residential building, and residential mechanical.

Pichon said the inspectors may test for the commercial certifications as well, even though they are not required for their positions within the county.

Holston said he plans on taking his next exam in the next month or so, and hopes to have all of his certifications by the end of the year.
