A Sunday afternoon tire blowout caused a car driving on Interstate 59 to go off the road and when the driver tried to get back on the interstate, the vehicle flipped, ejecting a child who died on scene.

The accident occurred at about 2:43 p.m. Sunday afternoon as the vehicle was traveling northbound on the interstate. A Mississippi Highway Patrol report states that the vehicle, driven by Paula Ancor, 41, of Lumberton, had a blowout and the vehicle left the roadway. Ancor returned to the roadway and the vehicle flipped several times. Ancor’s daughter, Abby LaCombe, 12, also of Lumberton, was ejected during the accident, said Deputy Coroner Derek Turnage.

LaCombe died of massive head trauma sustained in the accident, Turnage said. Next of kin have been notified.

Three other passengers were in the vehicle, including LaCombe’s grandfather, Claude Ancor, 65, of Gretna, La.; LaCombe’s sister Alex LaCombe, 10, of Lumberton, and her aunt Kim Magee, 40, of New Orleans.

MHP Public Information Officer Sgt. Joe Gazzo said Magee and Alex LaCombe both suffered broken arms in the accident, while Claude Ancor suffered life threatening injuries in the accident and is listed in critical condition.

Turnage said Claude Ancor and Magee were taken to Forrest General Hospital, and Paula Ancor was taken to Highland Community Hospital. Paula Ancor suffered minor injuries, Gazzo said.

Toxicology reports are pending and the accident is under investigation, Gazzo said.
