A suspect in an Ocean Springs robbery and rape case has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Jess L. Green made his first appearance in city court on Wednesday and told the judge that he did not want the charges against him read in court. The case now goes to the grand jury.

City Judge Matthew Mestayer sent Green, 20, on to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center. No bond was set.

Green is facing seven charges from two incidents that occurred June 30 and July 2 in which two women told police that a man robbed and abducted them from the parking lot of the Wal-Mart Supercenter on U.S. 90 in Ocean Springs.

The first woman said the assailant, at gunpoint, raped her in her vehicle and took cash. The second woman also was forced at gunpoint to drive from the parking lot to another location, but escaped and ran to a nearby home when the man attempted to rape her, according to an article on www.sunherald.com.

Green has been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of sexual battery, one count of attempted sexual battery and three counts of kidnapping because an infant was in the first vehicle.
