My name is Joe Jones and I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for Coroner of Pearl River County.

I am a national registered paramedic and have worked in the medical field for the past 22 years. I am presently employed at Camp Shelby where I oversee the training of the combat medics prior to deployment. I am a life long resident of Pearl River County, and reside in Poplarville.

When asked by my family and friends, “why do you want to be a Coroner?” This was my reply. I care about people. Then another question was asked, “What is so important about being a coroner.” These questions made me realize that all the public does not have a clear understanding of what the coroner’s role in public society really consist of.

As the coroner, you not only need experience in identifying the cause of death but also have compassion for the survivors and dignity for the deceased. When dealing with death on a day to day basis, you have to remember you’re not just looking at a “dead body” but a human being with a soul. But just as important, you can not dismiss the need for knowledge in identifying the cause of death.

As a paramedic and an advanced cardiac life support instructor for 22 years, I have acquired the experience, knowledge and the desire to seek this office. Thank you for your support.
