Daniel Evans, one of four former Harrison County jailers scheduled to for trial next week in a case involving the mistreatment of inmates, entered a guilty plea to a conspiracy charge on Monday.

Evans changed his plea during at a hearing before U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. as part of a plea bargain.

Evans and two other jailers were charged in March, when the federal government added to charges against Ryan Teel and added the others to an indictment alleging they conspired to deprive Harrison County jail inmates of their civil rights with intentional, unjustified use of force.

Teel, Rick Gaston and Karl W. Stolze are set to go on trial Monday in Hattiesburg.

Six former jailers earlier agreed to plea deals following the alleged beating death of inmate Jessie Lee Williams Jr. in February 2006. Those agreeing to plea deals could be called to testify in the trials of the former jailers.
