Former Pearl River Community College standout Larry Brackins has been a driving force in the Arena Football League for the Philadelphia Soul this season, and he hopes to continue that impressive performance tonight in the AFL playoffs.

The 6-foot-4, 212-pound Brackins is one of the leading scorers and receivers for the Soul, which is owned by music legend Jon Bon Jovi and in their fourth year of play in the AFL. Philadelphia is in Atlanta today to take on the Georgia Force in the AFL Divisional Round of the playoffs, and the game can be seen live on ESPN at 6 p.m.

Brackins is second on the Soul in scoring with 20 touchdowns and also is the second leading pass catcher for Philly with 56 receptions for almost 800 yards in yardage. All 20 of Brackins’ touchdowns this season have come as scoring receptions.

He has also recorded 12 tackles in limited time on the defensive side of the ball.

Brackins is in his first year of action with Philadelphia, coming to the Soul after spending time with the Tampa Bay Bucs in the National Football League for part of the past two years,.

Brackins was drafted out of PRCC by the Bucs in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL draft, the 155th overall player selected.

But Brackins fell to stick with Tampa Bay, and after signing a contract was released by the Bucs just before the 2005 season started.

However, the Tampa Bay brass decided to give him another shot and re-signed Brackins in the offseason of 2006. However, he was released just before training camp began that season, and eventually ended up with the Soul where he hopes to use his impressive campaign to earn another shot in the NFL.

Brackins is also hoping to make a sort of homecoming in the next few week.s The 2007 Arena Bowl, the AFL’s championship game, is set for the New Orleans Arena. The 21st annual Arena Bowl will be played on Sunday, July 29

Brackins helped PRCC to the 2004 National Championship.
