The U.S. Marshals Service announced Thursday the arrest of 65 fugitives in a major sweep that it said took gang members and other violent criminals off Mississippi streets.

Those arrested included members of the Aryan Nation, Vice Lords and Gangsta Disciples, said Stan Harris, first assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi.

One of those arrested was Eric Taylor, who was wanted for two counts of aggravated assault for his alleged role in the shooting of two people.

An AR-15 assault rifle was recovered when Taylor was arrested in rural Rankin County, said Nehemiah Flowers, the U.S. marshal for the Southern District of Mississippi.

“This operation continues to prove how effective the law enforcement community can be when we work together toward a common goal,” Flowers said at news conference announcing the arrests. “Operation Falcon has demonstrated repeatedly that federal, state and local law enforcement can work well as a team.”

Operation Falcon is part of nationwide initiative to take dangerous criminals off the streets. The program is credited with helping track down 30,000 fugitives in the United States in recent years.

The latest arrests were made in Jackson, Vicksburg and Meridian, Flowers said. Police confiscated crack cocaine and three guns.

“There are a number of these charges that are state, but hit on federal priorities,” Harris said. “A number of the fugitives are … alleged members of national gangs.”

Flowers said another fugitive arrested during the six-day operation was Tyrone Livingston, a sex offender who had failed to register with the state sex offender registry when he moved.

Livingston was originally charged with assault with intent to rape in Michigan, according to the registry.

Marshals announced last November the arrest of 164 fugitives in Mississippi during another phase of Operation Falcon.

Agencies involved in the latest operation were the Secret Service, FBI, Mississippi Department of Corrections, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, the Hinds and Madison County Sheriffs departments and police officers from Jackson, Meridian and Clinton.
