Last season, Derek Tortorich was the first player from Pearl River Central High picked to play in the Crossroads Diamond Club Baseball All-Star Game.

This year, the Blue Devils have made the experience twice as nice.

On Friday, Mike Lehmann and Matt Discon were selected to the prestigious game that pits the best outgoing seniors in the state of Mississippi against one another.

The game will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m., at Trustmark Park in Pearl, the home of the Mississippi Braves Class AA team as well as the Mississippi High School state championship series’.

“They deserve it, they were a big part of our success the last two years,” PRC head coach Greg Lewis said recently of the honor for his players. “They will represent PRC very well.”

The two helped guide PRC to back-to-back Division 8-4A titles for the first time in school history as well as consecutive 20 win seasons after both moved into Pearl River County from Chalmette, La., in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Both were also picked to play in today’s Whitney Bank Seniors game in St. Martin as well.

Lehmann, a pitcher/infielder, has already signed a baseball scholarship with Tulane but is expected to be picked in next week’s Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Discon, who plays both infield and outfield, has signed a scholarship with Meridian Community College.
