3 arrested in drive-by shooting that wounded child

Three more people have been arrested for their alleged roles in a drive-by shooting last month that wounded an 8-year-old girl.

Ruben Stefan Nichols, 22, and James Wilson McDowell, 18, both of Pass Christian; and Steven Earl Abston, 17, of Gulfport, are each charged with six counts of aggravated assault.

The shooting happened May 31 and left a bullet wound in Charkina Keller’s knee.

Abston was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Jessie Louis Carter, 21, of Gulfport, was arrested for his alleged role in the shooting shortly after the incident.

Nichols and McDowell’s bonds were set at $600,000 each and Abston’s bond was set at $1 million, according to a www.sunherald.com article.
