A local man died this past weekend while driving in the Covington/Bush area in St. Tammany Parish, La.

According to a press release from the Louisiana State Police Troop L, on May 26, at about 4:26 p.m. Justin Williams, 25, of Carriere, was involved in a fatal single vehicle accident.

The crash occurred at La. 40 milepost 48.7 while Williams was traveling east on the roadway. Williams failed to negotiate a curve to the left and went off the right hand side of the road. The 2002 Ford pick-up then traveled about 150 feet across a ditch embankment parallel to the road, rotating counterclockwise, the release states.

Williams then overcorrected to the left, crossed the roadway traveling about 60 feet and exited the other side of the roadway. The truck finally entered the ditch, rotated clockwise and overturned, traveling about 100 feet before coming to rest on the roof, the release states.

Williams was pronounced dead on scene by St. Tammany Parish Coroners Assistant Michael Rodriquez, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The release states Williams was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have been involved, however test results are pending. Public Information Officer Trooper Louis Calato said the test results would not be ready for a couple more weeks.

Calato said wet conditions were not a factor in the accident since the area had no rain at the time.

“He just failed to negotiate a curve, several of them did that this weekend,” Calato said.

Calato said Troop L worked two fatal accidents, the other was in Tangipaho Parish, and a motorcycle accident with serious injuries.
