Leander “Lee” Matthews Sr.

On Monday, May 14, 2007, Leander “Lee” Matthews Sr., 53, passed away. He was born on September 23, 1953 in Poplarville and was a resident in Pearl River, La. for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Cathy Matthews, his children; Leander “Lee” and Jessica Matthews Jr.; Monica Matthews, Patrick Matthews, and Jennifer West. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Blayton Matthews, Sadie Matthews, and Hailey Matthews; two sisters, Iris Matthews Wells of Poplarville, and Gwen Matthews Cunningham of Greenville, S.C. He is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alma Matthews, and two brothers, Gene Matthews and Robert Matthews Jr., both of Poplarville.

He was an avid member of the American Hunting Club, and he loved to hunt. He was also a member of the Slidell Remote Control Airplane Club. He was employed as a truck driver for the last 25 years. He did a lot of community service by coaching baseball and basketball for 12 years in Pearl River, La. He will be sadly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2007, from 10 a.m. till service time.

Interment will be at Hickory Memorial Gardens, located at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Hwy 41, Pearl River LA 70452.
