Judge delays MUW hearing

A judge has delayed a hearing scheduled for Monday in the lawsuit filed against the Mississippi University for Women’s president by the school’s alumni association.

The alumni group has asked a judge to stop Claudia Limbert from installing a new alumni association.

Organizers of the current alumni association have until Friday to file an amended lawsuit. Limbert will then have until April 10 to answer. She filed a motion Sunday to have the case dismissed.

Lowndes County Chancery Court Judge Dorothy Colom will now decide whether to halt the switch on April 12.

Limbert’s realigned alumni association was to take control Monday. She installed the new group after deciding the current association was working against the university.

Its leaders tried to have the university president and another high-ranking university administrator fired and attempted to undermine university fundraising activities, Limbert has said.

In the lawsuit, the group refers to Limbert as “merely a transient guest of the institution” who is making an attempt to “stifle the voice” of the association because it doesn’t “blindly support her position.”
