A 52-year-old Madison man arrested on child molestation charges will remain in jail until his trial.

An FBI spokeswoman said Stephen Randy Luxford appeared before a judge in Gulfport on Monday and was denied bond.

The judge cleared the courtroom because of the nature of the charges and ruled that Luxford would remain in jail until his trial. A trial date has not been set.

Luxford was arrested March 12 at his home by FBI agents and deputies from Madison and Harrison counties.

Stephen F. Gomez, acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Mississippi, said a warrant was issued for Luxford’s arrest on a charge of having sex with a 14-year-old girl who lived in Harrison County.

If convicted, Luxford could be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
