Two events to honor MLK

Two events will honor the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday in Picayune.

The first event will be a march from South Side Elementary to a program to be held at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Line up for the march begins at 10 a.m. and the march begins at 10:30 leading to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church program at 11 a.m. In the event of unfavorable weather, the march will be skipped and the program will still take place at 11 a.m. at the church, according to a release from the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee. Refreshments follow the program.

The second event is at 7:30 p.m. Monday Jan. 17, at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in cooperation with the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church and the Pearl River County NAACP. The event will feature a music and health fair and the Rev. Harold Littles, pastor of Little Providence Baptist Church in Catahoula, as the guest speaker.

Blood pressure monitoring and blood glucose testing will be offered at the event. All choirs, groups, soloists, drill teams, dancers and poets are welcome to participate in the event.
