An apartment security guard and the man he chased into Arlington Elementary School on Monday have been charged with trespassing.

At about 9:10 a.m. security guard George Stevenson of Pascagoula, who was wearing a holstered gun, was chasing Steven Anthony McCuller when the two entered the building, Police Lt. Paul Leonard said. The two ran down the main hallway and exited the school.

“We had two people who trespassed on our campus who shouldn’t have been there. And every time someone trespasses that shouldn’t be around our kids, we’re going to sign charges on them because that school is for school,” said Superintendent Wayne Rodolfich, who signed trespassing charges against the two men.

The men came from a nearby apartment complex, Rodolfich said. The manager said McCuller does not live at the complex.

The secretary told the principal, who immediately locked down the school though the men were already gone, Rodolfich said.

Stevenson, 33, was charged with trespassing and felony possession of a weapon on school property, Leonard said.

McCuller, 20, was charged with trespassing and misdemeanor possession of a knife on school property.

The two are being held at the Pascagoula jail awaiting bond.

Stevenson works as a courtesy officer at Eastwood Townhomes on Orchard Road, apartment manager Monica Mason said. She said Stevenson is licensed to carry a gun and was chasing McCuller because he was a suspect in a burglary at Eastwood.
