In a short Picayune City Council meeting several issues were discussed in executive session and only one motion was approved in open session.

City Manager Ed Pinero said the council discussed pending litigation with Hide-A-Way Lake and Resurrection Life and also discussed a loan contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The issue with HAWL was a continuation of a previous discussion on the gated community, which was using their emergency exit during the morning hours. After Hurricane Katrina the community had been opening the gate to allow another way for residents to get to work or other morning appointments, alleviating traffic on the congested U.S. 11. Recently the city council asked the community to keep the gate closed since the extra traffic on Cooper Road was making for unsafe driving conditions on the road in its current condition. A meeting was planned with HAWL for Monday morning where the council and the manager of HAWL will hash out the problem and form a plan.

Resurrection Life Worship Center is looking to provide a place for the community to receive aid when it is needed, in instances of emergencies or not, Pinero said. The council agreed to a lease contract between them and the faith based organization to build a long term and emergency food distribution center in Picayune. An exact place for the center has still to be determined but since the organization needs about three acres to place the center they could use Picayune’s Industrial Park, Pinero said. Pinero said the city will only handle the land lease.

An update was discussed on a FEMA county disaster loan contract. Pinero said everything is in good order with the contract so far but more details still need to be worked out.
