Deputies arrest three for drug possession

Sheriff’s deputies recently made drig arrests.

The first of the three incidents took place Jan. 12 when deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Mississippi 26 in the Whitesand community, according to a release from the department. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed that the driver, identified as James Michael Henry, 39, of 707 S. McGehee St., Poplarville, was in possession of an open beer.

The deputy charged Henry with possession of open beer prompting a search of Henry and the deputy found crack cocaine in Henry’s sock, the release states. Lead Investigator Chris Lott said there was about a gram of the drug in Henry’s possession. Henry also was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

On Jan. 14, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Joseph Simonek, 30, of 612 Cr. 2810, Mineola, Texas. After the deputy pulled Simonek over on Interstate 59 North for careless driving, the deputy asked Simonek to get out of the vehicle and step to the rear of it, the release states. As the driver reached the rear of the vehicle, the deputy saw Simonek drop something. When the object was recovered, it was determined to be methamphetamine, the release states.

During a search of Simonek, the deputy found another bag of the drug. Lott said Simonek was in possession of about four grams of meth. Simonek was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

On Jan. 15 deputies responded to a call concerning a suspect drinking in the parking lot of the Dollar General in Carriere. When deputies arrived, they saw the suspect, identified as Sherbert D. Drummond, 37, of 139 Lilac Dr., Picayune, approaching her vehicle. The deputy asked Drummond if the vehicle was hers and she acknowledged it was, according to the release. Through the window the deputy could see an open beer inside the vehicle. After the deputy asked Drummond if the beer was hers and she said it was, she was taken into custody on the charge of open beer and was searched. During the search the deputy found Drummond to be in possession of crack cocaine. Lott said she had about half of a gram of the drug in her possession and she was charged with possession of the drugs.

Drummond was not charged with public intoxication since she did not appear intoxicated, but she did appear to be loitering in the parking lot of the store, Lott said.
