Two motorcycle accidents on consecutive days left two men dead over the New Year’s weekend.

The first accident occurred at about 4 p.m. Friday. Terry Davis, 22, of 1801 U.S. 11 S. Lot 97, was traveling south on Jackson Landing Road when he lost control of the 200 Suzuki GSX 600 he was riding while going around a curve, said Patrol Capt. Kelvin Stanford with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

Davis went off the shoulder of the curve and flipped the bike, Stanford said.

“He was ejected off the bike and the bike struck him,” Stanford said.

Stanford said Davis was wearing a helmet but the helmet came off during the accident before the bike landed on top of him. According to friends and family, it was only Davis’ second time on the motorcycle, Stanford said.

“Lack of experience could be a contributing factor,” he said.

Davis was taken from the scene by ambulance and pronounced dead at Highland Community Hospital.

A second fatality involving a motorcycle and a vehicle occurred at about 7 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Harry Sones and Henleyfield McNeill Road, said Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Chris Lott.

Kelton Burks, 24, 225 Millie Burks Rd., was traveling on Henleyfield McNeill Road as Arnold Humphreys was turning his vehicle onto Harry Sones Road where he lives. Burks struck Humphreys’ vehicle on the side and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Burks suffered minor injuries, Lott said.

Further information on Saturday’s accident is pending an investigation, Lott said.
