The results of the two-year effort by the Picayune Police Department to gain national accreditation will be announced at 2 p.m. Thursday, according to a press release from the police department.

The announcement will be made in the council’s chambers at the new city hall, 815 N. Beech St.

Police Chief Jim Luke and Professional Standards Officer Brenda Smith traveled to Reno, Nev., this past weekend for an interview and question-and-answer period with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Members of the Commssion visited Picayune earlier this year to meet with officers, city officials and the public on granting the accreditation.
