The GFWC-MFWC Civic Woman’s Club will host the 18th annual Christmas Pilgrimage on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $10; tickets at the homes are $12 and are available at Checkered Lily, The Glass Porch or from CWC members.

The Pilgrimage will feature three homes and one local church which will include the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Whitfield, Mr. and Mrs. Max Huey, and Reba Beebe; and Trinity United Methodist Church.

The third feature on the Christmas Pilgrimage will be the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Huey, 102 Oakwood Lane in Picayune.

Christmas spirit Abounds

Evergreen boughs with red bows and ribbons cascading from the lamppost and shutters welcome you to 102 Oakwood Lane, a casual and comfortable place where Max and Carolyn Huey love to welcome guests, cherish family time together, and sometimes just relax. The look of this Southern home is very diverse, filled with many cherished and meaningful objects collected through the years. Every room awaits you with looks and smells of Christmas.

The foyer welcomes guests with native Mississippi” dried hydrangeas, pine boughs, and boxwood sprigs. A wreath encircles the ceiling light and is reflected in the elaborately-adorned mirror atop the china cabinet.

In the dining room, the table is set for Christmas. The chandelier hanging overhead easily evokes the elegance and beauty of a Truly Southern holiday. The tablescape consists of pears, apples, pomegranates, and acorns and enhances the pattern of the “Holiday Tartan” china. Loads of natural light spill into the main living room through the high windows. Once cold weather arrives, you will always find a blazing fire in the fireplace (Max’s specialty). The Christmas tree is adorned with Gail Pittman ornaments in the “Truly Southern” pattern. This collection was designed exclusively for MFWC and features the State Federation of Women’s Clubs’ cotton blossom emblem. The signed ornaments are a limited edition of 100, but you may be able to persuade the Ways and Means Chair, Leslie Lincoln, to sell you one!

A radiant 19th century bedroom suit belonging to Carolyn’s great aunt takes center stage in the front guest room. Here Southern style combines antiques with looks from the 21st Century.

The blue bedroom is relaxed and comfortable with a nod to nature. Decorations feature grapevine wreaths and other natural materials.

The cheery breakfast room and kitchen offer a pleasant gathering place for family and friends. Here you will find the gingerbread motif used with the Huey’s four grandchildren in mind. Other pieces of Carolyn’s Santa and nutcracker collections are also on display.

Simple is the theme of the master bedroom. Wreaths hang high over the bed to welcome the holiday season. Gold cones and fresh greenery accentuate the master bath and dressing area.

Everything doesn’t always have to happen indoors. Step outside where we are all “decked out” for Christmas. The view of the lake is framed with grapevine garlands entwined with white lights.
