A Picayune resident was caught after he ran from the Mississippi Highway Patrol during a traffic stop.

Picayune Police were notified of the suspect fleeing on foot on Thursday after the traffic stop made by a Mississippi State Trooper at about the seven-mile marker of Interstate 59 in the southbound lane at approximately 11:40 a.m.

The suspect ran from the trooper into a wooded area of Cooper Road near the Woods Subdivision. Picayune Police officers saturated the area in an attempt to locate the fleeing suspect but were unable to find him because of the severe weather conditions at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Then, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Picayune Police received a call from a resident in the Woods Subdivision reporting a suspicious person who appeared to be hiding behind some bushes in the neighborhood. Police responded and saw the suspect fitting the description of the white male who ran from the State Trooper earlier that day. When Picayune Police officers Lt. Ray Carlisle and motorcycle officer Trent Boyd approached the suspect he again ran but to no avail as the officers had him surrounded.

The suspect, Jamie Taliverda, 25, of 10 Sampson Lane, was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing and disorderly conduct. He is being held for the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and for the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department on additional charges.
