An arrest warrant has been issued for attorney Paul Minor for failing to comply with the terms of his pretrial release as he awaits his second trial in a judicial bribery case, a newspaper reports.

Mark Quarles, the pretrial services officer, filed a petition Wednesday in U.S. District Court, asking that Minor face a hearing to determine whether he violated the courts demands, The (Biloxi) Sun Herald reported Thursday on its Web site.

Minor, 60, is accused of bribing former Judges John Whitfield and Wes Teel. Mississippi Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz Jr. was acquitted of bribery charges after a three-month trial last summer, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on charges against Minor, Teel and Whitfield.

Minor has recently been released from alcohol treatment after a DUI in Louisiana and allegedly causing a scene in a Jackson bar.

Now he is accused of violating his pretrial release by being out of range of the electronic equipment that monitors his movements, the paper reported.

Quarles asked Judge Henry T. Wingate to issue a warrant and hold a hearing to decide whether Minor violated his agreement. Wingate signed the order Wednesday.

Calls to Minor’s attorney, Brad Pigott, seeking comment were not returned.

However, Wingate’s office confirmed there is a hearing before the judge at 2 p.m. Friday.

Minor released a statement late Thursday saying, “I respect the court’s orders and I’m anxious to appear before the court to present evidence showing that I’m complying with those orders.”

Quarles said on two occasions Minor was out of electronic-monitoring range of his home in Baton Rouge, La. which is a violation of his release conditions.

Minor disputed the allegations, the paper reported.
