A domestic dispute between two family members lead to the accidental shooting of one of them, but no one was injured severely.

On Sunday, Sept. 3, two family members had a verbal altercation concerning a weapon being carried in a vehicle with children. Jason Thomas, 25, of 13606 Semen Rd., Vancleve approached Jacob McMurrin, 20, 40 Buster Stockstill Rd. about carrying a gun in a car with children, said Investigator Richard Fayard with the Hancock Sheriff’s Department.

After McMurrin had had enough of Thomas voicing his distaste for the practice of carrying the weapon in the vehicle, McMurrin went to leave, Fayard said. Thomas followed McMurrin to his vehicle at which time McMurrin pointed the gun at Thomas to make him back off and an accidental shot was fired into Thomas’ right upper thigh, Fayard said McMurrin told him.

“It was basically a flesh wound,” Fayard said. “It was a family disturbance that just got out of hand.”

No charges have been pressed at this time, Fayard said.
