Two candidates are to be interviewed this week in the search for Mississippi University for Women’s next alumni relations director.

Diane Heim of Starkville, a former national YMCA media relations manager, will visit the campus on Wednesday, while former LeMoyne-Owen College alumni relations director Ann Henderson is scheduled to be at MUW on Friday.

Jan Miller, manager of Main Street Columbus, last month became the first candidate interviewed for the position — MUW’s chief liaison to its 20,000 alumni.

MUW President Claudia Limbert has said she wants to appoint a director as soon as possible to replace Patsy McDaniel, forced out in May after serving 18 years.

Limbert picked the three candidates to present to MUW administrators, students and alumni for interviews. Limbert said she was soliciting comments before deciding whom to appoint.

Along with McDaniel, assistant MUW alumni director Tracey Ervin was ousted. Limbert said McDaniel and Ervin, both MUW graduates, undermined the 2,300-student university by working against its fundraising and public-relations arms.

McDaniel and Ervin’s attorney have said their firings were unjustified and indicated litigation is being planned against the university.
