Penton advises board against raising insurance policy

Superintendent Dennis Penton advised the school board for the Pearl River County that it should not purchase the extra insurance its insurance company suggested to provide for damages district building may suffer from named storms that blow through the district.

The extra coverage would cost the district anywhere from around $66,000 to $68,000 to receive full coverage for named storms. However, the school district is already covered for up to approximately $10 million in damages due to named storms.

“I suggest that the board not pay extra for coverage that we would never use in the case of named storms. It’s highly unlikely that a named storm would cost the district more than $10 million in damages,” Penton said.
