The Navy has awarded Northrop Grumman Corp. a $58.4 million contract to continue engineering and technical services for the Ticonderoga-class ships.

The company’s shipyard in Pascagoula will perform the work on the Aegis guided-missile cruisers, officials said Monday. Northrop will provide support in several Navy ports.

The contract is for one year with four one-year options.

“Much of this contract work will support the cruiser modernization effort, which will increase the service life and war-fighting capability of these ships another 20 years,” said Kevin Jarvis, vice president of Aegis programs.

Northrop Grumman will provide engineering services and material procurement in support of the maintenance and modernization efforts on the vessels. The waterfront projects will take place in Norfolk, Va., Mayport, Fla., San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Yokosuka, Japan.

Northrop Grumman, as lead shipbuilder for the Aegis cruiser program, delivered 19 of the 27 ships in the Ticonderoga class between 1982 and 1994.

Northrop Grumman is the world’s largest shipbuilder and the country’s third-largest military contractor.
