Korean War soldier’s remains to be laid to rest in Vicksburg

The remains of a Mississippi soldier missing in action in Korea for over 50 years will be buried Thursday during services in Vicksburg.

PFC Oscar Howard Nettles was reported missing in action in North Korea on Nov. 26, 1950. He was presumed dead on Dec. 31, 1953.

Remains found in Korea in 1999 were subjected to DNA testing in Hawaii and were identified as those of Nettles.

Nettles, of Warren County, was born in 1930. He was a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division.

Services are at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home in Vicksburg.

The Mississippi Army National Guard will provide an honor detail and Maj. Gen. Harold A. Cross, the state’s adjutant general, will speak during the service.
