Gov. Haley Barbour said Friday it’s possible he’ll call a special legislative session to deal with an economic-development project.

“It will be relatively soon if it happens,” Barbour said in response to reporters’ questions.

He wouldn’t say what part of the state the project would help, what kind of jobs would be created or what kind of legislation he’d request.

State officials are working to complete details of the project, he said.

Barbour called five special legislative sessions in 2005, but he hasn’t called any so far this year. Lawmakers ended their regular, three-month session in early April, and the 2007 session starts in early January.

Only a governor can call a special session, and he decides what’s on the agenda. Economic-development sessions typically include requests for approval of state bond money.

Barbour was in Pearl on Friday to visit the new Mississippi Emergency Management Agency building, where he talked to state workers about hurricane preparation and response.
