Warrant issued for teenager in Jeff Davis Co. murders

PRENTISS (AP) — An arrest warrant has been issued for a 17-year-old suspect in the shooting deaths of two teenagers this past week in Jefferson Davis County.

Sheriff Henry McCullum said Monday that the warrant charges Aqi Demetrius Rhodes with two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault.

“It was a dispute of some kind. All four knew each other,” McCullum said.

Randolph Sands and Roberto McInnis, both 19, died of multiple gunshot wounds on Friday near the Church of Christ at a U.S. 84 intersection.

Jason McNair, 18, was wounded in the shooting, McCullum said. McCullum said McNair was in stable condition at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.

McCullum said McNair does not face charges at this point.

“I think everybody was shooting,” McCullum said.

McCullum said Sands and McKinnis were cousins, and McNair and Rhodes were friends.

“I think they all ran around together,” McCullum said. “They got into a dispute about something that triggered this.”
