David Huertas is transferring to Mississippi from national champion Florida, Rebels coach Andy Kennedy said Wednesday.

Huertas, a guard whose only start last season came in the Gators’ win over Ole Miss, will sit out in 2006-07 and will have three seasons of eligibility beginning in 2007-08.

“He is obviously familiar with the SEC and comes from a winning program,” Kennedy said. “With the players we have graduating after this upcoming season, it’s an ideal situation for us to have a player of David’s caliber sit out a year and come back with three years left.”

Huertas averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds, and played in 35 games as a freshman.

He is the third player to transfer to Ole Miss since 2004. Center Dwayne Curtis came to Ole Miss two years ago from Auburn, and guard Justin Cerasoli sat out this past season after he transferred from Seton Hall.
