The total amount of expenditures is $22,717,585.75. The total excess deficit of revenue over expenditures is $1,690,631.13.

The fund balance as of July 1 is $7,507,135.

Dennis Penton, Superintendent of Education, said, “This year has been tough on the budget because we’ve added a lot of personnel. But we’re still trying to keep the numbers low per classroom in the elementary schools. And both our insurance premium and deductible went up to an almost criminal rate. However, I think the budget works for the mission statement of our school district.”

“We will only spend what we need to be progressive and provide a good education for the children and I think this budget does that. Overall, I’m pleased with the budget and I think it will meet the needs of our school district perfectly,” Penton said.

The Pearl River County School District also announced that it will begin interviewing qualified candidates next week for the position of Pearl River Central Middle School principal.

Penton asked the board yesterday during its 6:30 p.m. meeting to meet with him again at 5:30 p.m. on July 28 to discuss personnel issues that need to be addressed before the new school year begins in August. The board agreed to the date and time of the meeting.
