Simpson was charged in 2004 with shooting her husband, Don Simpson, who died of a gunshot wound on Dec. 22, 2003.

The shooting death was originally regarded as an accident. But prosecutors said further investigation resulted in a murder charge.

Defense attorney Calvin Taylor requested a bench trial for his client.

District Attorney Tony Lawrence said it appears the judge listened to the testimony of expert witnesses and decided Patricia Simpson was guilty of manslaughter.
