WTOK’s Torgerson dies at 82

Television news reporter and former University of Mississippi sports broadcaster Stan Torgerson has died, Meridian’s WTOK TV reported Monday. He was 82.

Torgerson passed away at Rush Foundation Hospital after being admitted for pneumonia.

Torgerson had worked for WTOK as a senior reporter covering politics and government for the past eight years. He also hosted “On the Record” on Sundays.

“Stan was a true legend in Mississippi and the Southeast. He was perhaps best known for being the voice of the Ole Miss Rebels for many years,” WTOK reported.

He also once owned and operated WQIC radio in Meridian, and had worked for television stations in Memphis and elsewhere during his career.

Besides his work in the broadcast field, Torgerson wrote sports columns for various newspapers in the South.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete.
