Tupelo’s Trace Inn to be torn down

AP

TUPELO The old Trace Inn in Tupelo has been scheduled for demolition.

The city condemned the structure earlier this year after the owners, Tupelo-based JSK Hospitality, filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

City officials said that the aging motel has numerous deficiencies that would require extensive work to bring it up to local building codes. No date has been set for the demolition.

The Trace Inn started as a dairy bar and restaurant in 1961 and grew over the years into the city’s premier location for travelers, diners and conventions.

It has a restaurant, swimming pool, convention hall, three-story motel and several one-story motels. The restaurant will not be torn down.
