Commission announcies recipients of arts awards

JACKSON The Mississippi Arts Commission has announced the 2010 recipients of the Governor’s Awards.

The honorees include bluesman, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, a Shaw native. Edwards will receive the lifetime achievement award, and Clinton watercolor artist Wyatt Waters will receive an award for artistic excellence.

West Point folk artist and craftswoman Bessie Johnson will get a heritage award. Lenagene Waldrup of Cleveland will receive an arts in community award for her work in the rural Delta.

Mississippi Public Broadcastings “Grassroots” radio show will be honored for excellence in broadcasting.

The awards ceremony is set for Feb. 25 at Galloway United Methodist Church in Jackson.
