Bond denied suspect in slayings

Associated Press

CLEVELAND Bond has been denied to 43-year-old Harvey Lewis, who has been charged with capital murder in the slayings of a woman and a child.

Bolivar County Circuit Judge Al Smith also during an initial hearing Wednesday in Cleveland sent the case to a grand jury.

The bodies of 44-year-old Michelle Walker and her granddaughter, 4-year-old Janiya Williams, were found Tuesday along U.S. Highway 61 just north of the Mississippi Delta town of Duncan. Both had been shot.

Authorities said Walker and the child had been kidnapped from their Quitman County home.

Lewis was being held Friday in the Bolivar County Regional Correctional Facility.
